

Raymond Terrace Therapy are offering Driving Assessments under the guidance of our highly trained Occupational Therapist, Samara.
Samara is passionate about working closely with individuals to maintain their independence in safe and effective ways. Driving is an extremely valuable occupation for many and with the right tools and recommendations, Samara will support you to get back driving if safe to do so.
For those with a disability or medical condition, Transport NSW may require you to receive an Occupational Therapy Driving Assessment to determine:
- If you can safely hold a Drivers Licences
- If there are any recommended vehicle modifications (e.g. spinner knobs, hand controls, dual accelerators etc.)
- If there should be any restrictions placed on your licence (driving set distances, driving in certain conditions etc.)
- If you would benefit from ongoing driving lessons
The assessment
There are 3 components to the Driving Assessment:
- Off Road Assessment: This assessment takes approximately 2 hours and takes a detailed look at you and your medical history to determine your fitness for driving. This includes:
- Medical History
- Driving History
- Vision
- Physical ability
- Cognitive Skills (decision making and judgement skills)
- Knowledge of road laws
- On Road Assessment: This assessment is completed on the road with a external qualified driving instructor. It is the practical component of a driving assessment and assesses your ability to drive on roads familiar to you. The OT will join you on this assessment.
- Reporting: At the conclusion of the Off Road and On Road driving assessments, Samara will write a detailed report that will be provided to Transport NSW. This report will outline the outcome of your assessment and any necessary recommendations.
The cost
An Occupational Therapy Driving Assessment takes approximately 6 hours to complete (assessments and report writing). The cost of this assessment is between $700 and $750. The following services may be used to fund all or some of your assessment:
- We are a registered NDIS provider, so you may be able to use your NDIS plan.
- Department of Veteran Affairs
- Private Health
