Bariatric surgery is surgery that affects the stomach and how food is digested. It is designed to make the stomach much smaller, which causes the person to feel full after eating only a small amount of food. Our Accredited Practising Dietitian can assist you at all stages of your weight loss journey, whether that be immediately Pre- or Post-Surgery, or in the long term. We understand that weight loss surgery is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach and we can tailor your nutrition program to suit a wide range of pre-existing health, lifestyle and family conditions. Our priority is to ensure our clients feel comfortable, cared for and empowered in a non-judgemental setting to reach their weight loss goals, whatever form that may take.
Before Surgery
The weeks before surgery can be a nerve-wracking time. Our dietitian can help with:
- Understanding how your surgery can help you and a picture of what to expect from surgery
- Advice and support during the Pre-Surgery Optifast
After Surgery
Our main goal immediately after surgery is to help your recovery period be as fast and smooth as possible. Our dietitian can help with:
- Walking you through the different dietary stages after surgery, from fluids and purees to solids, with plenty of detail and practical tips
- Supporting you once you have returned to normal food, by providing tips, tricks and troubleshooting advice
- Multivitamin and supplement support to ensure you avoid deficiencies
Long Term
If your surgery was a long time ago, and you find yourself struggling with weightloss plateaus, the return of old, unhelpful eating habits or the emergence of new ones, our dietitian can help you get back on track.
