Existing wheelchair or seating system – Modifications
Already have a seating system, manual wheelchair or powered chair? We understand that over time an individual’s postural needs may change and equipment may be faulty or something’s not quite right. Seating systems usually have the ability to grow and adapt. Our therapists are highly skilled to help.
If your current wheelchair is not meeting your needs, you may simply need some modifications to your existing chair rather than replacing it with a brand new one. The Seating and Wheelchair Clinic is available to you.
Our Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapist can assess your current seating system and provide adjustments to accomodate your postural needs. Our therapists will be able to help you decide if this is the most time and cost effective option for you to improve your comfort, mobility, posture and function; and if so, will assist with trials, funding requests and equipment reviews to ensure you are satisfied with the outcome.
New seating or wheelchair assessment
It can be difficult to navigate the many different brands and styles of wheelchair and seating systems available. The wheelchair and seating service has been set up to assist with narrowing down the right equipment for you, and to help you access funding.
If you need a wheelchair for the first time or need to replace an existing wheelchair, we can help you with this process. The service will include:
- Comprehensive assessment – needs assessment, MAT evaluation
- Trial/s of appropriate equipment
- Liaison with you, your family/ carers/ treating team and equipment suppliers
- Application for funding for equipment
- Review of equipment when it is supplied to ensure it is meeting your needs
- Monitoring and maintenance program to ensure it continually meets your future needs
During the trial we will select the right equipment to meet your goals for your mobility, function, posture and comfort. Our therapists will then help identify what funding you are eligible for, and assist with completing the relevant forms. We are able to assist you no matter what your reason is for needing a wheelchair, and can help with manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs, power assist devices, cushions, back supports and seating systems.
